June means 2023 is halfway over! Can you even believe it? It also means we are halfway through the Take Ten blocks for the year 🙂 So, while June is bustin’ out all over, we will be learning lots of things from the flowers (mixing musicals there ha)! Le Jardin is the block this month, a very simple flower block using two different fabrics from your 10″ stacker. You’ll also need (4) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares and (8) 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ squares for each block.

Les Jardins means gardens in French, and with an assortment of these blocks together, it is like a lovely flower garden.

I decided to use Lella Boutique Sugar Pie fabric for this month, her florals are always so cute so making flowers with it just made sense.

This block is different from all the previous blocks because it requires a secondary fabric. Once you’ve cut your blocks out, you’ll need to do some fabric swapping so each flower has a different print for the flower’s center.

The construction requires mostly snowball corners, which were made easy with my diagonal seam tape from Cluck Cluck Sew. The 9-patch construction uses the 2 1/2″ background squares in the corners. Follow the pressing instructions so the seams nest nicely!

And starting with a 10″ stacker, you can make a cute flower block!

All the blocks together = loveliest flower garden!

This month’s pattern is also unique because it has cutting instructions available to make this an on-point block. It requires extra background fabric and will result in a leftover block, but it looks so cute! This layout reminds me of Daisy Lane, which is cute flowers connected by their leaves, and one of my favorite quilts I’ve made!

Of course, there is also the standard layout, if you’d rather not deal with piecing the quilt top at a diagonal. This layout is great for web piecing (learn about that here).
