November is here! Happy Take Ten Friday 🙂 This block is an easy one, and super cute to boot!

Like June’s block, I wanted to go with a seasonal theme for November and Falling Leaves is a great way to represent the changing of the seasons. It might be late for most of the Northern hemisphere but down here closer to the equator we are still waiting for those cool temperatures 😉

The Falling Leaf block makes good use of the 10″ square, but leaves a nice scrap too! The background fabric allows for a good size block despite the seams. You’ll also need (2) 3″ x 4 1/2″, (2) 3″ x 3″, (4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″, (2) 2″ x 2″, and (2) 1 1/2″ x 5″ background pieces to complete the block.

I’m using Evermore for Moda for this month’s block and it is gorgeous. For this block, the 10″ square will be cut into (1) 3″ x 10″ piece, (2) 2″ x 5″, (1) 4 1/2″ x 5″, and (1) 1″ x 3″ piece. The background squares snowball the appropriate corners on the print pieces, and once put all together…

You have a lovely leaf block! My block background is a Confetti Cotton solid, in Mediterranean. I LOVE it! How many blue backgrounds is this for me this year?

Such a simple leaf block! I wanted a leaf that didn’t use HSTs, and it went through several variations before I found something simple enough that still resembled a leaf! I love it. I have the leaves lined up nice and tidy for these photos but my final layout will have the leaves offset a bit- just cut (6) 3″ x 10″ background pieces and use those to offset the columns.

I mocked it up in some more fall prints (Fall Is Here for Riley Blake Designs on the left, Pumpkins and Blossoms for Moda on the right) with lighter backgrounds so you could see that too. I decorate for fall using blues, so I knew my fall quilt should have that color represented. When it wasn’t in the Evermore fabric line, I knew the background would be a good place to showcase an autumn blue.

I’m excited to see this quilt come together over the next few weeks!
