With all the hustle and bustle of life I realized I missed a full feature on Swan Serenade, my latest fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs. Today I will introduce you to the line as well as share what I’ve been making with it.

This fabric line was inspired by Swan Lake, as I mentioned in my Odette Quilt Pattern post. So, in this fabric line we have the main bouquet- notice the pretty tulle behind the bouquets, as presentation of the flowers is key for performances!

Then there’s the star of the show, the swans themselves. No ballerinas, but we all know that a swan is a symbol of potential- who knows what talents these swans have hidden behind their serene and elegant pose.

I wanted this print to also come in a dark colorway, to symbolize the black swan, so this is available in charcoal as well. Very moody! The line also has prints with music notes in it. I opened up Tchaikovsky’s work and used some of the music notes directly from the Dance of the Cygnets. Classical music and sparkly music notes, how much more can this line ask for?

Of course, I then designed the Odette Quilt pattern to coordinate with the line and included a ribbon block because of the ribbons in the scattered floral print from the fabric. It all ties together 🙂 There is a method to my madness, really!

I also have a blender print that is just a big collection of feathers, fluffy and float-y, that ties prints together. There is a stripe as well, and the In Flight flying bird V print, a recognizable pattern in nature as well as in Dance of the Cygnets number.

The scale of the prints are on the smaller side because of the dainty nature of the fabric theme. Because of that, it has some good EPP options!

For this project, I just played with some diamond and hexi/half hexi shapes in my design software. The result was perfect!

A little “feather” quilting to accent the diamonds, and this beautiful piece has a spot on my mini quilt wall. I love that it has a place in my sewing room.

Because I am currently living in Paris, I had to take the fabric to the Paris Opera Garnier for photos! It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful building in Paris. And that’s saying something because Paris is full of beauty. The building was packed, so it was hard to take pictures but we tried anyway.

I also took it to Vaux le Vicomte, another gorgeous estate but about an hour outside Paris. It’s been one of our favorite places to visit so I am glad Swan Serenade came along to join us.

I’ve made a few projects so far with this fabric line: the Odette quilt, Libretto Mini quilt, and a baby size Take Me Home quilt – the flying geese that inspired the quilt name made me think of the flying birds print in Swan Serenade, so of course I needed to make one!

The In Flight print comes in a low volume cream with blue bird V that makes a great background too. I used it for my swan bodies in the Odette quilt, and also for the star points in my Libretto mini.

Well, I hope that gives you a good idea of what you can make with Swan Serenade! It is in stores now, so check online or with your LQS to find it.

Happy Quilting!
