If you read my previous blog you’ll know how much I LOVE the quilt book Growing Up Modern by Allison Harris. I’ve made nearly every project in the book, I have only a few more quilts to go and I’ll have worked through the whole thing. Anyway, one of my favorites in the book is the Sparkle Quilt, and it was begging to be paired with the adorable Lil’ Red fabrics!

Sparkle Baby Quit

This is a very simple quilt, just squares and quarter square triangle blocks with sashing- It is a great beginner quilt and a fast sew for the more experienced. And of course, with the right fabric, any simple quilt can be the most beautiful thing ever!

I feel in LOVE with the Lil’ Red line by Stacey Hsu for Moda Fabrics when I first saw it at a quilt shop (My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shop- so cute!) in Midway, UT. I showed serious restraint in not getting the whole line in fat quarters! I love the folksy look of the illustrations, and the sweet feminine colors. I got the backing fabric at Jo Ann’s, it was a red tag bolt of Jennifer Paganelli so of course I grabbed it. I did a basic stipple pattern to quilt it all together, and voila! Baby quilt done!

Baby quilts are my favorite sizes, too. I think my kids spent most of their non-walking days in the middle of our floor on some blanket, so I like making a decent sized baby quilt that will bring beauty to the room around it. Most of our baby-sized quilts in our house now have some sort of baby-stain on it 😉 but that’s what I make them for- USE! I always fear that when I give quilts to people they’ll hide them away instead of loving them to death. Even better if the baby quilt can transition to a toddler bed (like my free Mayberry Quilt pattern)!
