A side effect of my goal to make more baby quilts is that I’ll be gifting more baby quilts this year, so I figured it was time I add a Quilt Care Instructions print to the gift instead of just writing it in the card or using verbal instructions. And once I had it made, I knew I wanted to share it with all of you!
I researched a LOT about how to care for a quilt, and there were actually all kinds of opinions on how to do it right. Basically, it boils down to what type of quilt you’ve made and how long you want it to stay in pristine condition. For me, my quilts are all made and gifted with the intent of everyday use, so the instructions I’ve included in my printable are for those kinds of quilts!
From my experience, people aren’t accustomed to receiving something quite like a handmade quilt unless they are well acquainted with a quilter 😉 I was getting a lot of questions about how to wash it, and people who were afraid to use the quilt I gifted them! With a tag that includes quilt care instructions- including permission to snuggle often- it solves the problem right up front.
The printable includes one sheet with four copies of the instructions, which are also a perfect size to fit into a card if you’d prefer to include it there instead of wrapped on the quilt.
Just cut out the cards and store them for future gifting!
I had a lot of fun doing the lettering and little illustrations for this card, and I hope the style suits a few of you!

You can also print this on the printable fabric! And add your name and DATE.
I give my quilts to the nieces and nephews for shower gifts and include a plastic shower curtain!
No, not for the joke (which is funny), but because I make the quilts to be used for picnics and give warnings that I will retrieve the quilt if it is not used. I always keep an emergency in the car for those emergency picnics.
Thank you very much for this! I have given many quilts to friends & family and they always want to know how to care for the gift. This solves that problem … and so easily!
Thank you so much for sharing. I have always wanted to include something like this with my quilts but just do not have the talent to make something on the computer. I LOVE IT ❤️❤️. I will definitely be including with my future quilts. THANK YOU!!!
You are welcome!! I’m glad that you love it, and that you can use it too!
Love this- thanks so much!
Thank you so much. It was very kind of you to share your directions.
Thank you very much!
Found this post via Diary of A Quilter. Thanks for making these cards and sharing! I’m including one on a quilt I’m gifting tomorrow. 🙂
Thank you sew much!!! 😁😁
Outstanding!!! I will put together a follow up gift for the last two quilts that I made for young adults…and will put your instructions, with “Color Catcher” and a muslin quilt bag for storage! You ROCK!!!
Great idea!
Thank you! such a cute print out to give with a quilt!
You are welcome, I hope you get good use out of these!
That is so nice of you, thank you!
Cute label. Just what is needed. Thank you!
Thanks for the quilt care instructions! My adult daughter (also a voracious reader) and I have taken up quilting together during Covid as she has moved home to escape her regular apartment home in the city and is working from our much more spacious home with a yard and a sewing room! Stumbled across your blog recently and enjoyed a couple of your patterns…will try to work them into our future as well. Be well and continue to enjoy your voracious reader, she will grow up all too soon, but it will just keep getting better.
Perfect care tag for gift quilts. Thank you.
Thank you for the lovely care labels for quilts. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks again for the free labels!! Andrea
You’re the best! Thank You!
