Remember last year when I shared a gnome block tutorial? This year, I expanded it and made it into a full pattern + table runner! I’d been meaning to make a full quilt from this cutie block for a while so I’m glad I kicked myself into gear for this Valentine’s Day.
I’ve been seeing a lot more gnomes around lately, so you better believe I picked up some coordinating gnome décor while I was at the store recently! It was the perfect motivation for getting this quilt done.
The addition to this pattern is the heart block, which is just borders on the heart from the gnome block. I kept the fun quilting on the gnome blocks though, with some organic (read: really terrible) lines on the hat, pebble quilting on the body, and “beard” lines on the heart beard. It wasn’t so hard to just to the basic stipple around the gnomes, and then go back and fill it in later.
The result of the Gnomes + Hearts made a decent throw size, 56.5″ x 59″! No sashing, no borders… as easy as can be. I have fabric requirements in the product listing, if you want to take a look and order fabric in time for Valentine’s Day! This cover quilt varies a bit, however… I divided the fabric into 4 separate prints for each main color, about 1/4 yard for each. If you want scrappy, that’s a good baseline to start from.
All the fabrics in my quilt are from Riley Blake Designs- the majority are from my Flutter and Shine fabric line- the reds, aquas, and pinks are just Perfect for Valentine’s day! I also included some Riley basics, and a green-aqua from Hedge Rose fabric line, and an oooollllddd heart print from several years ago.
Now that we have another Valentine quilt (it’s official: I have more Valentine quilt projects than Christmas!) it’s been making its rotations around the house, draped all over the place and being just well loved!
I’ve got the quilt pattern, plus all the instructions for a table topper, in the shop!
