In the spirit of an upcoming presidential election, I felt it was a good time to post a patriotic quilt! I know October doesn’t feel very Red-White-and-Blue but a quilt is a quilt any time of year!

This quilt has long since been gifted to a very patriotic family, but I remembered to take photos before shipping it off. However, I failed to share it with you after that point, so I’m making up for it today :).

For this quilt, I used Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew’s tutorial on no-point stars (Also called her July Stars) and then added some bulky, striped sashing. In fact, my plan was to do the stripes in a different direction, which led me to design the Stars In Stripes Pattern.

Red is one of the least stocked colors in my fabric stash- Green is also a hard one to come by, so you can say I struggle around Christmas time ;). But I managed to collect enough reds (I think most prints were a Bonnie and Camille fabric?) for this Patriotic Star Quilt! I didn’t have time or fabric to make a large enough quilt as-is, so I have 4″ cornerstones and leftover prints/white striped sashing. I think I used up almost every bit of these fabrics! But, it still wasn’t large enough (the quilt was destined for a tall family!) so I added a big border all around.

Now, the finished size is lost to the ages, but since my 6′ husband is holding these photos and his arms are raised to keep it off the ground, we can safely assume it’s big enough 😉

My friend Kelli of Simply Mackbeth quilted this one with a gentle wave design, to really drive home that patriotic stars and stripes look. I love how it all turned out!

So, I hope all my US friends use this opportunity to VOTE in our upcoming election and let your voice be heard! We can always do better and be better, and its us- the people- who can be a major influence in that. I can’t think of anything more patriotic than pursuing that dream!

Happy sewing!
