Earlier in December I received the Modern Maker Box from Cotton Cuts- it is a great subscription box stuffed with fabric, Aurifil thread, exclusive patterns, and a few more goodies. The best part about the Cotton Cuts boxes is that a portion of the proceeds go to making quilts for kids via the Heart Builder Network- that means ever box benefits a child somewhere!
Because the Modern Maker Box has ties to helping children, I first thought of my own kiddos when I opened up the goods. I saw three gorgeous yards of prints from Rae Ritchie for Dear Stella, and knew instantly they’d need new dresses. I usually get my fabric in FQ increments, and so I don’t make dresses for them nearly enough these days. It was a refreshing tangeant and really got them excited about the whole thing too!
I chose the Sullivan Dress from Sew Much Ado for my 6-year-old (I made this dress last year too, three times!), and used two prints from the line- Seeds in Mint, and Butterflies in Clover. I had the perfect amount of fabric, and of course they looked amazing together.
My 3-year-old got a First Day Dress (shift style) from MADE to show off the final print, Woodland Nymph in Vanilla.
The fabric was so delicious to sew with- the whimsical prints have just captured the attention of my girls. We ran some errands after we took these pictures, and the girls got so many compliments!
Like I mentioned earlier, along with the three yards of dear Stella Fabric, the box contained a spool of white Aurifil thread, an exclusive modern quilt pattern from Flying Parrot Quilts, and some other goodies like cute prints and a fun sewing pencil.
If you would like 10% off your first month’s subscription to the Modern Maker Box, just head to the Cotton Cuts website and use code HELLOMELLY at checkout.
In the meantime, my girls are going to be parading around in their new, mom-made dresses! It feels good to deviate from quilts every now and again 😉
