Meet the newest quilt in the Hello Melly Designs pattern library! Introducing, the Chipper Quilt Pattern!
This quilt pattern had been on my mind to write out for some time, but I couldn’t come up with a good name. Then, our family took a trip to the Gem Show here in Tucson. One vendor had a bowl of “chips,” or tiny pieces of rocks and gems and minerals, that all together looked amazing! The angles, colors, and variety immediately reminded me of my nameless quilt pattern- and Chipper had a name!
This quilt pattern is pre-cut and scrap-friendly, and is the perfect chain-piecing project. I’d say it is good for a confident beginner, as there are lots of seams to match (pins! Use pins!). Otherwise it is very basic piecing techniques.
I just LOVE how this quilt turned out. I used a Gooseberry Jelly Roll (by Vanessa Goertzen for Moda Fabrics) and some Kona White for the quilt top, and had the perfect bias stripe in my stash for the binding.
Oh, yummy quilt! Its been so great using it this past week. New quilts are always the house favorite.
When you live in the desert next to a mountain (small, I know), you get quilts-in-the-desert pictures. Can’t avoid it. Lucky for us it was a gorgeously temperamental weather day!
I had Kelli of Simply Mackbeth do the quilting again. After much design deliberation, we finally decided to go with the diagonal plaid quilting pattern that we’ve seen here and there on Instagram. It really was the PERFECT choice, don’t you think? The backing is a great sheet that has a beautiful washed chambray look to it. It was a beast to iron and I never quite got all the wrinkles out, but once I wash this puppy and get the wrinkly washed quilt goodness happening, wrinkles won’t matter anymore!
For most of the pattern writing process, I had a solids version of the quilt in my document. It really made me want to try this out in just solids. And depending on color placement, you can get so many different looks in this quilt!
Snag this new pattern and any others in my Etsy Shop. Don’t forget to use the code PATTERNSALE for 20% off! The reduced prices (prices all went down as a sale to raise money for my daughter’s hearing aids… last July ha ha! Whoops!) won’t be here for long, so get your patterns now!
